Global Grain & Oilseed Update October 2026 - Price & Deficit Trends | AgriGuru Online
Description:
The global grain and oilseed market is experiencing severe structural realignments, expanding protein premiums, shifting trade corridors, and supply tightening across major exporting hubs.
Key Regional & Market Highlights (October 2026):
- Global Wheat Balance (2026/27): Global production stands at 822.39 MMT against consumption of 827.9 MMT, expanding the global wheat deficit to 5.51 MMT (vs 1.6 MMT prior). Global wheat prices are up +44.8% YoY with support at $230–$260/t. Key export projections: EU (32 MMT exports, 133 MMT output), Russia (40 MMT exports, 19.09 MMT ending stocks), and Ukraine (12.5 MMT exports, 26 MMT output).
- Protein Premiums: IGC sub-index is up +19% YoY (+8% since mid-July). Major exporter production fell by 42 MMT (437.5 MMT $\rightarrow$ 395.5 MMT), driving wider premiums for 13–14.5% protein wheat due to Canada harvest risks, EU feed wheat shifts, and lower nitrogen usage.
- GFSA Saudi Tender: GFSA purchased 683,000 t of wheat for late Nov–Dec delivery across Jeddah and Yanbu at an average price of $339.24/t through diversified suppliers (Bunge, Cargill, Aston, Olam).
- Egypt Wheat Outlook (2026/27): Record domestic production of 10.0 MMT across 1.5 MMN ha. Imports dropped -23% to 12.0 MMT against 20.7 MMT consumption, supported by higher procurement prices, certified seeds, and lower Black Sea premium risks.
- Nigeria Grains (2026/27): Corn imports surged 6x to 900,000 t on strong feed demand. Rice production fell 6% to 8.8 MMT while imports rose 11% to 3.1 MMT. Wheat imports dropped 5% to 5.6 MMT due to inflation-control measures.
- Soybeans to China (Q2 2026): Brazil maintains a ~$63/t price edge over US origins (Delivered Shanghai $479–$507/t vs US $513–$542/t), capturing 1.19 billion bu in shipments vs US 111 million bu.
- Russian Logistics & Ukraine-Italy Corridor: Russia shipped a record 1.4 MMT via Baltic routes in Sept (>50% share). Arctic shipments via Novorossiysk reached 40,000 t. Ukraine export shipments to Italy face up to 60% potential disruptions due to suspended Odesa loadings.
- Soy Oil Exports (Sept 2026): Argentina & Brazil exported 920,000 t (+200,000 t YoY), with India + Nepal absorbing 1.6 MMT (58%) of Jul–Sep total shipments (2.77 MMT record).
